Kugo falls into a trap while trying to save a girl who is caught up in a fight with Big Mar and loses his Astro Pole. Princess Aurora is worried about Kugo, who has no weapon now. Translation Thoughts

In this episode, Kugo fights against Big Mar once again, the monster he first encountered in episode 2 (66/73).

At 8:02 Kugo says:

痛い目に合わなきゃわかんないのか
Itai me ni awanakya wakan’nai no ka
Don’t you understand unless you experience pain?

This comes from the expression 痛い目にあう itai me ni au, which means “to go through a painful experience”. That sounds more violent in English than it is supposed to, so I changed it a little bit.

Kugo says something interesting at 16:08:

魔王を通せたら姫 決まり文句だけど俺は死んでも思い残すことはないぜ
Maou o tousetara hime, kimarimonku dakedo ore wa shindemo omoi no kosu koto wa nai ze
Princess, if we can get past the Demon King, I know it’s a cliché, but I don’t care about dying!

The word 決まり文句 kimarimonku literally means “cliché”, and I believe this is the first time I hear it in anime. Basically, he’s saying that he knows that the phrase “I don’t care about dying” is a cliché, but he really means it this time.

When Kugo says at 16:41:

光が飛び立ったのこの方向だ
Hikari ga tobisatta no kono houkou da
The light took off in this direction

He’s referring to Sabata, who turned into light after taking the Astro Pole, and flew off in that direction.

  1. The most danger our heroes faced was when Sabata took the Astro Pole, so the monsters acting or appearing as humans really is a theme by now! Thank you for another episode!

    1. It’s not the first time Kugo lost his Astro Pole hehe.

Actually Big Mar took it first on episode 2 (66/73).

      1. Sure he did but he just used his whip to yank it from him, here it was stolen by Sabata pretending to be a damsel in distress. A lot of these episodes have the monsters act as humans, ep 5 has the queen, ep 6 fake Kugo (if we count Kugo as human), ep 7 the town elder. Ep 4 has a kid be a powerful and manipulative monster – the more human these monsters are the bigger threat they present. After airing for over a year our cyborg heroes can more or less best any monster but the complex interactions with people is the real challenge, to tell friend from foe, to read their motivations, to fix the problem without harming the innocent. Seems it was worth continuing this show after the obvious climax! And thanks again for the translations!

  2. It would have been pretty epic if Scopius had posted this 3 days earlier, on April 1st, and wrote something like

“guys, now that there is only one episode to go, I must make a confession: I don’t really know how to speak Japanese. I made everything up. Can we still be friends?”

Thanks again for all the hard work and don’t forget to include your awesome translation notes in the final torrent.
